I am 14 weeks pregnant. Will going to a concert damage my unborn baby's ears?
First of all, congratulations on winning tickets to the concert! That's really exciting! And you should be okay to go. It's probably going to be loud there, like you said, but if you're not frequently exposing your baby to loud noises, then it's fine. Just make sure you--- it probably wouldn't be a good idea to stand right next to the speakers at the front but if you're just enjoying the concert like you normally would then you should be fine. Loud noises have been proven in certain studies to cause complications for a baby. But it's like repetitive exposure, like a mother working at a factory or something where she herself has to wear ear protection. There actually are also some studies that have been done to show how sound waves travel through amniotic fluid. In particular one showed that bass guitars actually allow sounds to travel better through amniotic fluid. I thought this was an interesting tidbit. A mother's voice is actually amplified through amniotic fluid. So that's pretty cool. Our babies are born knowing our voice. But again, go to the concert, have fun. Everything should be fine. If you're in doubt, do check with your OB provider and they can give you the best information based on their knowledge of your circumstances. But if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/intermountainmoms and recommend us to your friends and family, too.
