Public transportation is essential in Berlin. Here are the 10 things you should know to get moving in Berlin with the public transportation. #1 Ticket Vending Machines FAHRKARTEN ! Big red machines locateds in most stations. Touch screen. Instructions available in many languages. Can provide any ticket you like if you do have the cash. Indeed credit card are not always supported. My visa wasn't . #2 VALIDATE YOUR TICKET Fairly new for me but you do have to validate your ticket in the berlin s-bahn and u-bahn, at least once if it is a several days itcket. Don't forget or infraction you do my friend. #3 One Ticket to rule them all Tickets can be used to travel through S-Bahn, U-Bahn, buses, trams and ferries. German efficiency. #4 One card to rule them all BUT If you stay a few days in berlin, gotta pick one of these Welcome Card, with or without the discounts for tourist atractions. I know you don't want to be a tourist but it's worth it ! #5 FORM/TO AIRPORT ONE in the north : Berlin TEGEL TXL : no link with subway or train, you gotta take a bus or a cab. ONE in the south : BERLIN SHONEFELD, easy to reach to and from the city with the train. Discounters this way ! #6 What is S-BAHN railway system Green LOGO, Red trains Useful to move fast and above the ground #77 What is U-Bahn The subway of Berlin, Blue logo, yellow trains Travels underground #8 The ring : S41 and S42 Berlin is surrounded by two s-bahn railroads. The S41 line wich is running clockwise, and the S42 line, running counter clockwise. So useful to go to the other side of the city in minutes. #9 Biggest station in berlin : Hauptbahnhof Huge brand new station, city centered , Connections between the S-bahn and the U-bahn, , mega useful to go to any aiport or any place in Germany. #10 Bikes !
